Labor Day

>> September 10, 2008

I'm a little late in posting this, but the day was so fun I couldn't pass up talking about it. Matt and I both had Labor Day off and decided to spend the day un-laboring and go have a little fun. We started off by giving Yoshi a bath. At almost 30 pounds, he's getting a little too big to wash in our bathtub. But, he's so funny afterwards. He is so cuddly and tired and just curls up on the couch with his blanket and takes a 2 hour nap...everytime!

We've been wanting to go up to Mt. Baker all summer for a day trip and hike. So..we got a picnic packed, put our hiking shoes on, and drove 1 1/2 hours up the mountain to Artist Point - a beautiful lookout near the top of the mountain. Well...we didn't foresee the climate change as we changed altitudes. It quickly went from 72 degrees down to a chilly 44! And Matt only had a t-shirt and shorts on. Needless to say, our cute picnic lunch ended in a race of who could cram in their sandwich the fastest and make it back to the car to turn on the heat.

Because of the drop in temp. we got to see a little snow too. Yoshi loved it!

Unfortunately, about 10 mintues after we got up to the top, fog started rolling in...and fast! In a matter of 10 minutes we went from having a slight view to seeing nothing at all. So..after a cold lunch and a cloudy view, we decided to drive all the way home. So much for a day trip - we were only there for about 30 minutes!

At least the sunset that night was great. Nothing beats an end of the summer Bellingham sunset.

Thought it was time to give everyone a little eye update.  For those who don't know I have a corneal disease called keratoconus which affects the shape of the cornea greatly distorting my vision.  I had 2 surgeries 2 years ago to implant rings in the hopes of slowing down the disease process.  Welp...it's not working out so well.  I had a check up at my ophthalmologist last week who said I needed a cornea transplant ASAP on my right eye.  I've noticed my vision has been a little more blurry lately and I've been getting more headaches, but didn't think I'd need a transplant right now.  So...Sept. 25th is the day of surgery.  It'll be about a year long recovery process and I'll have 2 weeks off from work.  I won't be able to read/watch t.v./use a computer during those 2 weeks - it's going to be a little boring to say the least.   I'm definitely anxious and scared about the surgery and the recovery period, but thankful that there is something available to help my vision.  I'll keep you all updated and post lots of great pics of me with my eye patch.  I've decided this is the year to be a pirate for Halloween!

For those of you who live in WA, you know how much rain we get in the fall/winter months. Sadly though, the rainy season has already begun. With all of this dog walking we've been doing lately, Matt thought it was appropriate to prepare with the right attire. He was very worried about being dry, having good reflective gear for cars, and well, staying up on the latest fashion trends. I think the pictures speak for themselves.

(Prior to posting this blog, I let Matt preview it. His only reply: "I make that suit look good!")

A little bit of everything...

Maybe I'm not so good with this blogging world. Another month went by and I didn't post a thing! Well..here's an update for you. We have been really busy with Yoshi taking early morning walks at 5am, enrolling him in puppy classes, and still working on the biting issue. But, at 18 lbs. and 3 months old, he's very healthy!

Matt had his 27th birthday last month. Instead of a birthday cake he requested homemade cinnamon rolls. Not to brag or anything, but I'm sort of a good baker. Take a look, I think you'll agree.

Finally, the best news of all. I went to my 1st Seahawks game last night! Matt has had season tickets for years, but it's always been "guy time." Well, one of the guys couldn't go, a ticket opened up, I begged, and about 5:15pm last night I took my first steps into Quest Field. It was so much fun! I can't wait to beg again and hopefully go to another game.

Whistler

To celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary, Matt surprised me with a weekend get-a-way to Whistler! It was so much fun. We slept in, ate too much good food, and saw some incredible views of the mountains. We rode up to the very top peak and hiked around for a while. 1 year down, 74 to go!

Us at the Lodge almost near the top!

Our hotel.

View from our hotel room. They had the bunny hill set up for mountain bikes...so fun to watch!

On the way to the top!

At the very, very, very top!

The view...amazing!

Another amazing view.
The view of the village from the top. It looks so small!

Nap anyone?

So...it has now been exactly 4 weeks since we got little yosh-man. We can't believe how much our lives have changed. In those 4 weeks we've found our favorite activity to be nap time. And, I think Yoshi would agree. He's found a few favorite sleeping positions. See for yourself:

So I know what everyone is thinking...there she goes again, teasing us with 2 blogs, then nothing for weeks.  Well..I've been a little busy with this puppy.  But..good news is that he is eating less and less of his poop now and hasn't thrown up since the puke-fest a few weeks ago!  We are starting obedience school next week...we'll see how he does.

In other news we had a super fun 4th of July.  Of course we were so busy having fun I never took any pictures.  Oops.

Matt and I have our 1 year anniversary on Monday!!  To celebrate we are going to Whistler this weekend! It's hard to believe it's already been one year. I love him more and more every day and although living with a boy can be gross at times...it's amazing to get to live with your best friend.
