Ski to Sea 2010

>> May 31, 2010

Every Memorial Day weekend Bellingham hosts an enormous relay race. It consists of 90 miles, 7 courses and sports and include professional athletes, ex-Olympians and ordinary people around town. This year 464 teams competed. For the last 3 or 4 years we've headed down to Fairhaven to watch the kayakers come in at the end of the race. It is always an exciting time to see an entire community come out to support those who are racing. And, you are always bound to run into a friend or two! Karlie, Carrie, Carter, Sarah and Kairi

Karlie, Carrie and Brandon

Carter and Kairi. Kairi is 10 months old and so stinkin' cute. She was wanting to flirt with Carter the whole time (and steal a few toys). Carter just gave her the cold shoulder, he was much more intested in chewing on our water bottle!

Finally, Carter gave in and checked her out. I don't think they were too impressed with each other!
After a small meltdown due to the cheering from the crowd, Carter perked back up to his happy little self. All in all, it was a fun day spent with great friends. Happy Memorial Day!

sittin' up.

>> May 23, 2010

About a week ago I discovered that our little man could sit up all by himself. I turned around to grab a new toy for him and noticed that he wasn't taking a nose dive to the floor. Since then, that's all he wants to do. We are so proud of him but can't believe how old he seems now. Even though he's only 5 1/2 months, he seems like a one year old now (well, he does weigh that much - 21.5 lbs!). Do you think he has enough toys???Showing off his classy comb over. At least the picture doesn't show the impressive mullet in the back!

bookworm.

Carter has become quite the little reader the last few weeks. Whether it's magazines or board books, he loves them! Checking out the latest issue of National Geographic - he's so cultured!

Guess it's time to start bedtime stories!

Mothers Day.

>> May 10, 2010

This years mothers day was the best mothers day ever! Granted, it was my only mothers day ever (as a mom), but it was still the best. Matt had planned out a whole day of fun, but kept it a surprise until we were in the car driving to our destination on Sunday morning. The morning started around 4:30am when Carter decided he wanted some mama/Carter cuddle time. I let Matt sleep in until 7am! I did get to enjoy a nice cup of coffee and do some quick grocery shopping all by myself. We then got ready to go on our adventure. Carter and Mama (thanks for the cute outfit Aunt Joy!)

My 2 favorite boys!
Matt took me up to Semiahmoo for the day. It's a beautiful resort town on the water near the border. We had reservations for brunch and I was starving when we arrived. Matt let me go grab a plate of food while he hung out with Carter. Right as I was coming back to the table Carter had a huge blow-out...all over his new outfit! So, it was only fitting, on Mothers Day, to put down my plate of delicious food and run to the bathroom to change his entire outfit! (There wasn't a changing table in the men's bathroom or Matt would have done it). Once we had a clean baby again, then I went for round 2 of the food. We ate way too much food and enjoyed the beautiful view of the water from our table. After about 2 hours of sitting and eating, the wait staff was starting to give us bad looks and eyeing the table. So, we ventured outside to relax on the rocking chairs off the main deck.Carter was LOVING the sun!Family shot (it was a little bright, excuse the squinty eyes)The view.

After walking around a bit, we headed home, ran some more errands and ended the night with a relaxing walk around the neighborhood. Carter got to enjoy some avocados for dinner that night too!Thank you Matt and Carter for such a fun day! I love you both so much and feel so incredibly blessed to have you in my life.

5 months.

>> May 2, 2010

I know I say this every month, but I can't believe how fast Carter is growing! He will be 5 months old tomorrow so it was time for some pictures. Of course, the older he gets the more difficult it is to get a good shot. Oh well, I still think he's pretty cute.

Sweet potatoes.

We decided a while back that we were going to wait until Carter was 6 months old before starting solid foods. But, as he has proven time and time again, he's a little advanced for his age! He was supporting his head at 3 weeks, rolled over at 4 weeks and is now the size of an 8 month old! Since he was showing every sign in the book he was ready for some adult food, we gave in. We thought it'd be a great present for his 5th month birthday (tomorrow). First I thought I'd try out a breastmilk ice cube in the mesh feeder. He loved it!

I've been reading a lot about making homemade baby food and am really excited about it. I found this great website: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/ that has a ton of recipes and tips. Not only is it healthier, but making your own food is much cheaper and so much fun! So, last night I whipped up my first batch of sweet potatoes. This morning we tested it out.

Getting used to the spoon.Inspecting the first biteAfter all the anticipation, he's not thrilled.Oh wait, maybe he does like it!Wait, maybe not.Let's just keep trying...Carter finally decided to just grab the spoon out of my hand and feed himself!
A little messy, but overall I'd say it was successful!

Go Mariners!

Last year Matt's parents gave us tickets to a Mariners game and it was so fun. We even caught a foul ball from Ichiro. So, this year when they offered again, we quickly accepted. After all, it was Carter's first baseball game! Carter in the backpack waiting to walk into the stadium. The view from out seats, just 16 rows up!Carter cheering for the M's!Family pic.

He did such a great job and even took a nap during the game. We can't wait to go again!!
