spring break getaway 2018.
>> April 15, 2018
For spring break this year we decided to return to Seabrook for our 4th annual trip. This was the earliest in the year we've ever been since we usually choose to go right after school gets out or towards the end of the summer. But we had an open week and thought we'd try it out. We knew the weather was a risk but luckily 2 out of 4 days were bright and sunny! We made the best of the rainy days and I think, overall, it was a fantastic week.
We really, really love Seabrook. It's familiar with plenty to do for all the kids and grown ups alike, has a good mix of activities and downtime and is the perfect distance to drive. Any further and the kids start complaining about sitting in the car. So, win win! This annual tradition has easily become a family favorite.
We always stop in Aberdeen to stretch out our legs, eat a quick lunch and the kids get to choose a new toy. This year was super simple. Simon chose his favorite baseball movie, Lucy got a 29 cent stuffed bunny (ha!) and Carter wanted some new football trading cards. We pulled up to Seabrook's main street and settled right in. The sun was shining and we were so excited!
While we waited for our house to be ready we wandered around the town, admiring our favorite houses and stopping at the sweet shop for a little treat. Every year we tell the kids we are NOT going to the sweet shop every.single.day and every year we end up going every.single.day. Oops.
Carter chose his standard mango sorbet, Lucy chose a new flavor (she's always the one willing to try new things!) and Simon picked a deliciously messy chocolate donut. Typical kids!
And then our house was ready to go! This was easily our favorite house we've ever stayed in. Close to town, adorable and huge! It had 3 levels and was the perfect layout for our family.
We wanted to take advantage of the beautiful weather so we headed to the park, zip line and basketball courts to play for the afternoon.
After dinner we headed down to the beach. Because the forecast called for rain most of the week we weren't sure how much beach time we'd have. It was super windy and cold but the kids made the best of it. Plus, the sunset was gorgeous.
After getting the kids down to bed (thank you double bunk bed room!) Matt and I enjoyed a quiet evening in the hot tub on our back deck. This hot tub saved our week so many times. After a cold swim at the pool we'd run back to the house and warm up, at night we'd relax and if it was raining we could still sit and chat with all the kids. Definitely a huge house perk!
That night the kids were zonked out. We found Simon on the floor but overall they did so well all sharing a room together and Simon did great spending 3 nights in a big kid bed!
Day 1 was amazing!
