a holiday at the beach.

This past weekend was just wonderful. It was the unofficial start of summer, time spent with family and friends, lots of outdoor play and even time to relax.
Friday was spent prepping to leave for the beach house. We did an epic Costco trip and then after Simon's nap we played some serious Old Maid until we had to pick the big kids up at school. He's quite the little card player!
Friday night Carter had another flag football game (undefeated for the season and another touchdown for Carter!) so we left for the beach early Saturday morning. It's sort of tradition to stop at the "junk store" (a nickname we've used for years) and since they recently built a new building we stopped on the way to the house, while leaving plenty of time to play at the local park.

After settling in we headed down to the beach for a bit to play on the sand and swings.

Someone built this amazing fort out of driftwood....it was huge!
The next morning I got up early for a run around the neighborhood. I just love this time of day, watching the sun rise over the water and enjoying the peacefulness of the beach. It's my favorite way to start the day.

After breakfast we took a family walk/bike ride around the neighborhood.
And then headed up to Bellingham for the annual post Ski to Sea BBQ. We've been doing this for over 15 years and it's always fun to see old friends, admire ALL the growing children (they easily outnumber us) and catch up. The kids had a lot of fun playing with old and new friends too.

We came home, tucked some tired kids into bed and crashed ourselves. I woke up early Memorial Day morning for another walk/run and enjoyed the view one more time before we headed home. Only a few more weeks left of school and then we'll be right back here for 4th of July!
